FEC invited H. E. Ms. Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa, Ambassador of India for an Executive Luncheon Meeting at the Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo on January 16. Japan and India have long developed very close and friendly relations over the years. Following the Emperor and Empress’ visit to India last year, Prime Minister Abe was invited as the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations in January. India strongly expects the Japanese support for India’s infrastructure development program. Mr. Kenichi Watanabe, Chairman of FEC Japan-India Cultural and Economic Exchange Committee, Senior Advisor to the Board, Nomura Holdings, INC. made a welcome speech, “The Emperor and Empress visited India last year and this year Prime Minister Abe will attend the Republic Day celebrations as the first Japanese prime minister to do so. This must symbolize the good relations between Japan and India. We are pleased to hear from Ambassador Wadhwa today and would like to further understand India.”

Ambassador Wadhwa made a speech on “Current Status and Future Prospects of India-Japan Relationship”. She talked frankly on the economic cooperation between Japan and India including trade relations and the Japanese companies’ activities in India. After the speech, there were active Q&As and discussions on such topics as human development, female labor participation and deeper exchanges in the university sector.
