On 6th December, we hosted a welcome dinner inviting H. E. Mr. Nguyen Sing Hung, President of the National Assembly of Viet Nam and his party when he visited Japan at the invitation of Mr. Kenji Hirata, President of the House of Councilors.

On behalf of FEC, Mr. Ken Matsuzawa, President of FEC remarked as follows; “FEC supports the Doi Moi Policy of your country and have promoted economic and cultural exchange between our two countries for 26 years. In cooperation with the Embassy of Viet Nam in Tokyo, we co-hosted the Joint Japan-Viet Nam Economic Seminar last week and exchanged views with H. E. Mr. Bui Quang Vinh, Minister of Planning and Investment. The scene of this seminar appeared in the next day’s Nikkei newspaper. Furthermore, FEC delegation headed by Mr. Yoshihiko Nakagaki, Chairman of FEC Japan-Viet Nam Cultural and Economic Exchange Committee is currently visiting Viet Nam and has exchanged views with Viet Nam top government officials including H. E. President Truong Tan Sang. For the “Japan-Viet Nam Friendship Year” next year, we would like to co-host some activities which will serve as a foundation of next 40 years with the Embassy of Viet Nam.

H. E. Mr. Nguyen Sing Hung, President of the National Assembly remarked in return as follows; “I had an audience with the Emperor and had a meeting with President of the House of Councilors. During our meeting, we were in agreement that now is the best time because bilateral relation is strengthening our cooperation and friendship. Japan’s ODA and FDI toward Viet Nam are the largest now. In the field of not only politics and economy and cultural exchange but also national defense and security, our cooperation is getting deeper. We would like to thank you for FEC’s support to us to strengthen our relationship for 26 years. We started “Vermilion seal ship trade” with Japan 400 years ago, and we will celebrate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Viet Nam next year. We would like to develop our strategic partnership much further, and contribute to create an environment for peace and prosperity in the Asia Pacific Region.
