ObjectiveThis association aims to promote private diplomacy and support Japan's diplomacy by conducting research on the politics, economy, and culture of various countries and regions, as well as carrying out economic and cultural exchange projects to enhance friendly relations with other countries, in order to contribute to world peace and prosperity in the era of globalization.
Business policy(1) To enhance understanding of diplomacy and international issues
We invite government officials from various countries, ambassadors to Japan, and experts from Japan and abroad to hold discussions and exchanges of opinions with FEC members, aiming to increase public understanding of international issues and government diplomacy. We also invite senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other ministries to seek broader member understanding of foreign policy and basic principles, and strive to reflect public opinion in diplomacy.
(2) Promote exchanges with government officials and foreign organizations of various countries.
Sending overseas delegations to foreign countries
To assist in the development of overseas business strategies and human resource development, as well as in the study of the politics, economy, and culture of various countries and regions, and in building networks between FEC members and government and private sector officials in each country, we dispatch overseas delegations every year, with former ambassadors serving in various countries serving as advisors.
We will invite dignitaries from various countries to hold forums in Tokyo and other major cities to promote investment in those countries.
We organize luncheons and other events between dignitaries from various countries and FEC executives, contributing to the building of professional networks.
(3) Promote broad-based private diplomacy and communicate the results of these activities to the outside world.
With participation from all sectors of the public and ambassadors from various countries stationed in Japan, we are promoting citizen diplomacy from a broad national perspective.
We strive to report and make recommendations regarding the results of our activities to the Japanese government and relevant parties in the partner countries, and to have them reflected in policy.
(4) Support for strengthening foreign relations
Since 1996, the following committees have been established: the Japan-Europe Cultural and Economic Committee, the Japan-India Cultural and Economic Committee, the Japan-Russia Cultural and Economic Committee, the Japan-China Cultural and Economic Committee, the Japan-ASEAN Economic and Cultural Committee, the Japan-US Cultural and Economic Committee, the Japan-Middle East Cultural and Economic Committee, the Japan-Vietnam Cultural and Economic Committee, the Japan-Mongolia Cultural and Economic Committee, and the Japan-Central Asia and Caucasus Cultural and Economic Committee. Each committee is staffed by former ambassadors to their respective countries and academics, ensuring highly specialized committee operations. Each committee organizes events aimed at increasing understanding of each country and region and strengthening friendly relations.
(5) Bridging the gap between local areas and overseas
To support the international exchange activities promoted by companies, local governments, and educational institutions in various regions, we actively organize various opportunities and events for interaction with foreign dignitaries, playing a bridging role between local areas and overseas.

A bridging role
Since its founding, the organization has actively created opportunities for interaction between foreign government officials and members by inviting representatives from various governments and private missions visiting Japan to regional areas and hosting welcoming events such as international symposiums, seminars, and receptions. It also plays a bridging role between foreign companies and Japanese companies.
FeatureA unique feature of FEC is that it has over 100 ambassadors from various countries stationed in Japan as honorary members. It maintains close relationships with ambassadors and embassies from various countries, and provides numerous opportunities for exchanging views with visiting dignitaries from different countries, resulting in a wide network of contacts with foreign governments.
