FEC hosted a welcoming luncheon meeting for H. E.Ms. Valentina Ivanovna Matviyenko, Chairperson of the Federation Council, Russian Federation, at Hotel New Otani Tokyo on November 1.Chairperson Matviyenko is one of the close aides of President Putin and her position in the administration is the 3^rd in order, after the president and the prime minister. Prior to President Vladimir Putin ‘s visit to Japan in December, she visited Japan to talk with Prime Minister Abe and other government officials to strengthen the relations between Japan and Russia.The luncheon was the only opportunity of meeting with the private sector during her visit, and there were frank exchanges of opinions on friendship and economic cooperation between the two countries.
