On May 20, FEC held its 127th Russian Studies Association meeting online, featuring Professor Yoshiro Ikeda of the Department of Western History, Graduate School of Humanities and Sociology, University of Tokyo, on the theme of "The Historical Context of the Putin Regime." At the beginning, FEC Chairman Ken Matsuzawa gave an opening address, stating, "It is said that Russia has a concept called 'sobornost,' which emphasizes community over the individual. This value system is an extremely important perspective for understanding contemporary Russian politics and society. We believe that Professor Ikeda's lecture will be a good opportunity to deepen our understanding of the background of the Putin regime and contemporary Russia." Professor Ikeda then gave his lecture, followed by a question-and-answer session.
