FEC's History

1983
May Office for establishment preparation is opened.
July The Establishment Originators Meeting and Establishment General Meeting are held. Former Aichi Prefectural Governor Mr.Kuwahara Mikine is elected as honorary chairman, and Daiichi group chairman Mr.Ota Osamu as chairman.
October Offices are opened at the present address in Nakamura-ku, Nagoya(in front of Nagoya Station)snd the Shizuoka Branch in Shizuoka Prefecture.
1987
November A public and private joint economic mission is invited to Japan with the Philippine Minister of Trade and Industry as head of the group. A seminar to promote Philippine trade and investment is held.
December College students from five Asean countries are invited to Japan and exchange opinions with Japanese counterparts.
1988
February An investigation team(consisting of 18 members)is sent to the Philippines for exchange promotion . (Meeting with President Aquino, holding a reception etc.)
October An Indonesian Economic Mission is invited to Japan with the vice chairman of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board as the head of the group, and an investment seminar is held in Nagoya.
1989
Jan.7. The late Emperor Showa passed away, and the era is changed to "Heisei" as of Jan.8th.
February A subsidiary of FEC, the Asian International Exchange System (AIS)is established,and the first general meeting is held.
March The establishment permit for the Asian International Exchange System is received from the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
July The 5th International Congress of Invertebrate Reproduction is held in Nagoya, FEC supports the Iadies7 program as well as the Congress.
September AU. S. Economy Situation Observation Team made up representatives of middle class corporations is sent to Atlanta,Washington D.C. and New York. (Economic seminars and exchange receptions etc. are held.)
November Former Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Mr.Hirahara Tsuyoshi, is elected as President of FEC.
1990
February The dispatching of the series of Agricultural Missions to Thailand ends (total of nine groups were sent)
March The 4th ASEAN Frindship Meeting is held in Kanazawa. (The ASEAN Ambassadors to Japan participated,and economic foruma, ladies meetings,exchangs receptions, and education and industry obsevations were held. Sponsored by the Ishikawa Foreign Student Foundation and AIS) An Economic Mission is sent to Singapore. (Economic seminars, exchange receptions,industry observations were held.)
April An investigation group is sent four East European countries with the FEC representative, the former ambassador to Czech and Slovakia, Mr.Suzuki Fumihiko as group leader.
September The 5th ASEAN Friendship Meeting is held in Nagoya inviting ASEAN Ambassador to Japan and directors of ASEAN foreign ministries.(An economic forum,a ladies meeting, an exhibition on ASEAN industry, culture and tourism, a welcoming dinner hosted by Aichi Prefecture, FEC and other related organizations and a friendship golf competition are held. Total 5,800 people participated.)
September The International Congress of Asian Agricultural Universities is held in Nagoya. FEC supports the Congress following last year. (Directors of the department of agriculture of 41 universities from 16 Asian and Oceanian countries and four related intenation organizations participated in the meeting.)
December The extraordinary meeting of FEC board of directors in held and Mr.Hirahara Tsuyoshi is elected as the 2nd Chairman of FEC.
1991
January Former Japanese Ambassador to Portugal, Mr.Okada Fumiya, is elected as Vice-Chairman and President of FEC.
January Former Administrative Vice Ministers for Minstries of Finace,Transport,Intertional Trade and Industry, Agriculture and Forestry and Fisheries, and Home Affaire are elected as Head of Senior Advisors of FEC.
July Mr.Alexander Dubcek, Chaiman of Federal Assembly of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic is invited to the FEC international Seminar held in Nagoya with 500 attendance. (A welcoming dinner is given to the Chairman and five other memberes of Assembly.)
July Former FEC Chairmen, Mr.Ota Osamu, is given the '91 Special Award by the Japanese Foreign Minister for his achievements in the promotion of international exchanges through the establishment of FEC and its activities of public diplomacy.
September FEC Chairman, Mr.Hirayama Tsuyoshi, visits Morocco and the United Kingdom as a chief of the suite of the Crown Prince.
November Ladies forum on pubic diplomacy (LFEC) is established as one of FEC committees and the first study meeting is held. (LFEC is establishes in Aichi,Shizuoka, Gifu, and Mie Prefecture.)
November At the '91 extraordinary general meeting of the Asian international Exchange System (AIS), a sister organization of FEC, Mr.Miwa Nobuichi is elected as the second President of AIS.
